McKim Named Athlete of the Week
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State senior track and field athlete Ben McKim as been named the MIAA Athlete of the Week for his performances this past week at Simpson's Kip Janvrin Relays and Baker's Wildcat Open.
McKim automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in May with his throw of 59-feet-9-inches in the shot put at Baker. The throw took first place at the meet and is the third-longest throw in the country this season. McKim also took first in the hammer throw with a throw of 182-feet-2-inches, which is a provisional qualifying mark. McKim would place second in the discus behind teammate John Petroff with a throw of 160-feet-8-inches.
At the Kip Janvrin Relays, McKim placed second in both the discus and the hammer throw. McKim would finish behind Division I athletes in each competition. McKim threw 183-feet in the hammer throw and 152-feet-10-inches in the discus.
McKim and the Bearcats will host the Bearcat Open this Friday at Herschel Neil Track beginning at 3 p.m.
