Adams Breaks Own Record at Kansas Relays
LAWRENCE, Kan.-Northwest Missouri State sophomore Angela Adams broke her own school record in the 5,000-meter run Thursday at the 83rd Kansas Relays. Adams' time of 17:05.81 bettered her record by more than 13 seconds and improved her standing on the NCAA's provisional-qualifying list. Adams placed third in the event behind an unattached runner and a Kansas student-athlete.
Northwest senior Jennifer Dittburner also competed in the 5,000 and ran a personal-best 18:26.04 which places her 10th on the Bearcats' all-time list. Dittburner bettered her old mark by more than 16 seconds.
Senior Brandi Honeywell moved up one spot and into sixth place on Northwest's all-time 400-meter hurdles list. Honeywell finished 10th in the event after running 1:04.33.
Senior Lindsay Biermann threw 135-feet-9-inches, a provisional mark, in the javelin for the second time this season and finished eighth in the event. Junior Kate Walter threw 165-feet-9-inches in the hammer throw, also a provisional mark, but shy of her season best. Walter placed 11th.
On the men's side, senior Ben McKim placed third in the shot put behind Division I athletes from Kansas and Missouri. McKim threw 55-feet-10.5-inches, which is just shy of his season best this season.
Northwest got a number of personal-bests from its 800-meter runners. Senior Jennifer Kiss and sophomore Heidi Johnson ran career-bests of 2:23.63 and 2:23.81, respectively. Kiss' time is the best by a Bearcat this season. Sophomores Taylor Overmiller and Derek Roberts ran career bests of 1:59.32 and 2:00.42, respectively. Sophomore Alex Mullock ran a season-best 2:00.91.
The Bearcats had a pair of relay teams place fourth. The women's 1,600-meter relay team (Honeywell, Emily Churchman, Michaela Chambers and Bridget Klein) finished in a time of 3:56.90. The men's 400-meter relay team (Kohlman Adema-Schulte, Tyler Shaw, Kevin Okonta, John Miles) ran 41.61s in the prelims and 41.65 in the finals.
