MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State senior Emily Churchman has been named the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the period ended April 4. It's the first outdoor honor for Churchman, who earned indoor honors in February of 2009.
Churchman competed in five events at Saturday's Northwest Open on the Bearcat campus. She won the long jump and high jump, placed second in the 100-meter hurdles, ninth in the javelin and also competed on one of Northwest's 1,600-meter relay teams.
Churchman improved on her NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the long jump after reaching 19-feet-1.25-inches. She's the fourth student-athlete in program history to reach 19 feet. Churchman currently has the fifth-best jump in the nation.
Churchman also set a personal-best in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.68s - seventh-fastest in program history. Churchman is on Northwest's outdoor top 10 lists in five events, including the heptathlon where she holds the program record with 4,908 points.
