Four Bearcats Qualify For National Championships
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State seniors Ben McKim (shot put) and Emily Churchman (pentathlon), sophomore Tyler Shaw (60-meter hurdles) and freshman Angela Adams (5,000-meter run) have qualified for the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championship meet to be held March 12-13 in Albuquerque, N.M. Adams State College will serve as championship host.
Churchman, Shaw and McKim are repeat NCAA indoor qualifiers from a year ago and Churchman and Shaw are returning indoor All-Americans. Churchman placed eighth nationally in the pentathlon while Shaw was the national runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles.
McKim placed 10th nationally in the shot put last season, but was the national runner-up in the event at the NCAA outdoor championships last May.
Adams, a first-time national qualifier, shattered Northwest's program record in the 5,000-meter run while finishing fourth at last weekend's MIAA championship meet. Adams is a sophomore in both cross country and outdoor track and field at Northwest, but did not compete during the indoor season a year ago.
The schedule of events for Northwest's qualifiers is as follows:
• Prelims of the 60-meter hurdles will take place March 12 at 6:35 p.m. Finals are at 5:05 p.m. March 13
(Tyler Shaw).
• The first of five pentathlon events starts at 9:15 a.m. March 13 (Emily Churchman).
• The shot put starts at 2:05 p.m. March 13 (Ben McKim).
• The 5,000-meter run starts at 5:35 p.m. March 13 (Angela Adams).
