Three Plus Relay Earn All-MIAA Sunday
JOPLIN, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State's men's and women's teams placed sixth and eighth, respectively, at the 2010 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Missouri Southern State University Friday through Sunday.
Senior Ben McKim was crowned MIAA shot put champion Sunday after making a career-best toss of 59-feet-9-inches. The throw is the second-best in program history and second-best in the nation.
Sophomore Tyler Shaw finished second in both the 60-meter hurdles (8.19s) and the 200-meter dash (22.23s). Freshman teammate Travis Manning joined Shaw on the awards stand for the hurdles after placing third with a season-best time of 8.28s.
Northwest's 1600-meter relay team capped the meet with an All-MIAA performance. Seniors Brandi Honeywell and Emily Churchman along with freshman Michaela Chambers and junior Bridget Klein finished third with a season-best time of 4:01.36.
One day after finishing second in the 5,000-meter run, freshman Angela Adams took fourth in the 3,000-meter run and shattered the program's record in the process. Adams' time of 10:01.50 is 25 seconds faster than the previous mark. Sophomore Brittany Poole and junior Mary Jantz also set personal bests in the event. Poole's time of 10:23.04 with a 17-second improvement and is second on Northwest's all-time list behind Adams.
Nebraska-Omaha's women captured their second straight title while Central Missouri's men won their third championship in a row. Complete standings are listed below:
