Bearcat Men Take Their Turn at Mule Relays
WARRENSBURG, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State senior Ben McKim took second place in both the weight throw and shot put and sophomore Tyler Shaw placed third in the 60-meter hurdles to highlight Bearcat performances at the Central Missouri Mule Relays Saturday at the UCM Multipurpose Building.
Shaw improved his provisional-qualifying time in the hurdles by two one-hundredths of a second after running a season-best 9.08s in the finals of the event. The automatic mark is 9.04s. Shaw remains in the fourth spot in the national rankings.
McKim threw 56-feet-5.75-inches in the shot put, which is less than a foot short of the automatic mark he threw in December. He added a provisional mark in the weight throw after throwing a career-best 58-feet-9.25-inches, which stands 19th-best in the nation.
Northwest got third-place finishes from freshmen Travis Manning and Will Haer in the triple jump and pole vault, respectively. Manning had a season-best leap of 45-feet-9-inches. Haer cleared 15-feet-7-inches - a season best - in the vault.
Northwest's men's and women's programs make a return trip to Warrensburg Friday, Feb. 19, to compete in the Central Missouri Classic, which serves as the final meet for the Bearcats leading up to the MIAA Championships to be held the following week in Joplin, Mo.
