Men's and Women's Track Ranked 22nd, 23rd

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State's men's and women's indoor track and field teams are ranked 22nd and 23rd, respectively, in the first rankings released Tuesday by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA).

The rankings represent marks accumulated by teams in the 2010 indoor season through last weekend as reported to Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS). This week's release also represents the first time Division II national team rankings have been compiled using mathematical formulae that indexes a team's potential of placing well at the NCAA Indoor Championships and is similar in nature to the method that has been employed by Division I for the past two years.

The Bearcat men are one of six MIAA programs ranked in the top 25. Central Missouri and Emporia State are ranked third and seventh, respectively.

In addition to their national ranking, the Bearcat women are ranked fourth in the South Central regional rankings. Seven MIAA teams are ranked nationally in the top 25 including Central Missouri (6th), Nebraska-Omaha (9th) and Fort Hays State (10th).

Northwest senior Ben McKim has punched his ticket to the national championship meet with his automatic-qualifying mark in the shot put. McKim's throw of 14.46 meters is the fourth-best mark in the nation. Tyler Shaw ranks fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.10 seconds, which will likely be good enough to earn a bid for nationals as is.

Bearcat men on the bubble include Jacob Dupin, who has the 10th-best score in the heptathlon and Eric Rickert, who has the 21st-best mark in the shot put.

Emily Churchman's weekend performance in the Doane pentathlon should be enough for her to advance to nationals. Her score of 3,614 points is the fourth-highest total in the nation. Angela Adams has the sixth-best time in the 5,000-meter run and Churchman has the ninth-best mark in the long jump.

The next release of updated rankings will be Tuesday, February 9, with updates occurring the following five Tuesdays leading up to the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, March 12-13.
