Bearcat Track Competes in First Meet of 2010
LINCOLN, Neb.-Career best marks in the weight throw and distance events highlight Northwest Missouri State performances at the 2010 Holiday Inn Invitational Track and Field Meet hosted by the University of Nebraska Friday and Saturday. It's the first meet for the Bearcats in more than a month.
Ben McKim and Kate Walter set career-best marks in the weight throw with McKim tossing 57-feet-1.5-inches and Walter hitting 46-feet-7.5-inches. McKim, who has already qualified for nationals in the shot put, threw a provisional mark in that event Friday and placed third in a field of multi-divisional athletes.
Sophomore Brittany Poole improved her career mark in the 3,000-meter run by 39 seconds. She placed fourth in the event with a time of 10:40.39. Jennifer Dittburner shaved 27 seconds off her career-best mark in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in 19:12.92 and placing eighth.
John Miles, an All-MIAA performer in the 60-meter dash last season, finished six one-hundredths off a provisional qualifying mark in the event this weekend. He placed fifth in the event with a time of 6.94 seconds.
Tyler Shaw and Sheldon Cook placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 200-meter dash with times of 22.44 seconds and 22.48 seconds. Both are close to provisional-qualifying marks.
