Bearcat Track and Field Opens Indoor Season
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State track and field squads traveled to the Nebraska-Kearney Pre-Holiday Open and Iowa State Holiday Preview over the weekend. It was the teams' first indoor meets of the season.
Ben McKim picked up where he finished last year's outdoor season, by winning the shot put at the Iowa State meet with a throw of 57-3.5 which qualifies him for the NCAA Indoor Championships March 12-13 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Kattie Carol finished second in the 3,000-meters at ISU with a time of 11:00.37. Will Haer placed second in the pole vault with a vault of 17-10 and a ½. While Porter Groves finished with a triple jump of 46-feet-10-inches, good enough for second place.
Three Bearcat men competed at the Nebraska-Kearney Pre-Holiday Open in the heptathlon. Jacob Dupin won the heptathlon with a career-high 4,714 points, which provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Championships. Seth Staashelm finished fourth with a point total of 4,076. Zeke Winans finished eighth to round out Bearcat scores with a total of 3,825 points. Emily Churchman provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet in the long jump and heptathlon. Churchman had a career-high jump of 18-feet-6.5-inches. Churchman won the pentathlon with a point total of 3,517. Johanna Avilez finished third for Northwest with a point total of 2,941. Avilez also finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.32. Megan Davis finished fourth in the pentathlon with 2,593 points, and Jennifer Kiss placed sixth with 2,264 points.
