Churchman, Myers Earn All-MIAA at Multi-Events
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Emily Churchman and Zane Myers finished third in their respective events to earn All-MIAA honors at the 2009 MIAA Multi-Event Championships, which concluded today at Bearcat Stadium. The duo earned each Bearcat team six points that carry into the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at Missouri Southern.
Lindsay Biermann also finished ninth in the 17-person field of the heptathlon with a 239-point improvement on her career-best. She placed fourth in the javelin earlier today with 112 feet, six inches, to score a combined 4,107 points through the seven events.
Churchman started the day with a fourth-place finish in the long jump with 17-8 1/4. She held a 38-point lead over Ali Shaffer of Pittsburg State heading into the final event, the 800-meter run, at 3,882 points. Churchman finished third behind Shaffer with two minutes, 26.96 seconds, but kept her overall standing& with 4,613 total points.
Myers finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a career-best 15.03 to move past Aaron Dunbar of Pittsburg State into third in the overall standings with 4,210 points. Myers placed fifth in the discus throw and maintained his third-place standing through the pole vault and javelin throw to keep a 15-point lead over Eric Atkinson of Pittsburg State going into the 1,500-meter run.
Myers ran 5:12.88 to place fifth in the 1,500 meters ahead of Atkinson and held off Dunbar, who placed second in the event, to finish with 5,964 points in his second career decathlon performance.
Phillip Horn took the overall decathlon title with wins today in the 110-meter hurdles, discus and pole vault to score 6,664 points. Shannon Moore led through the last six events in the heptathlon to score 5,061 points.
