Myers Posts Four Top-Five Finishes in Day One of MIAA Multi-Events
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Zane Myers and Emily Churchman both stand in fourth after day one of the 2009 MIAA Multi-Event Championships at Bearcat Stadium. Myers posted four top-five finishes during the first five events of the decathlon while Churchman was one of five athletes in the 18-person field to score more than 500 points in each of the first four events of the heptathlon.
Myers started the day with a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash and followed with a fourth-place finish in the long jump. He jumped a season-best 21-2 1/2 on his final jump of the event before finishing second in the shot put with 37-4. Myers wrapped up the day with a season-best 51.44 seconds in the 400-meter dash after heavy rains forced the event to start nearly an hour late. He finished with 3,364 points in the first day.
Churchman finished with season-bests of 14.96 in the 100-meter hurdles and 33-1 1/4 in the shot put to place in the top-five of both events today. Churchman finished with 2,789 points ahead of teammate Lindsey Biermann, who won the shot put with 34-5 on her way to 2,532 points. Johanna Avilez sits 14th overall with 2,396 points.
Central Missouri's Darius Walker leads the men with 3,698 points. Shannon Moore of Nebraska-Omaha leads the women with 3,088 points.
Action continues tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the men's 110-meter hurdles. The heptathlon continues at 11 a.m. with the long jump.
