Events Conclude at Drake Relays
DES MOINES, Iowa-Northwest Missouri State's 400-meter relay tandem placed sixth at the Drake Relays Saturday with a time of 41.90 seconds. Members of the quartet included senior Sheldon Cook, junior John Miles, sophomore Kevin Okonta and freshman Tyler Shaw.
Northwest qualified for Saturday's final by running 42.01 seconds in Friday's preliminaries. Lincoln, which is set to enter the MIAA in 2010, won the event with a time of 40.18 seconds.
In addition to competing in the relay, Shaw placed eighth in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles Saturday. Shaw was the only non-Division I competitor in the event. After running the seventh-best time in Division II to qualify for the final, Shaw moved into the sixth-place slot with a time of 14.42 seconds.
Also in action Saturday was senior Audrey Bailey, who finished third in her heat and 13th overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 61.66 seconds. The top 10 finishers in the event all represented Division I institutions. Bailey already holds an automatic qualifying time in the event, which she set last week at the Kansas Relays.
