Churchman, Myers Among Top Performers at Northwest Multis
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State junior Emily Churchman provisionally qualified in winning the Ashley Nally Heptathlon and sophomore Zane Myers turned in personal bests in four events to highlight the Herschel Neil Decathlon hosted by Northwest Sunday and Monday at Herschel Neil Track.
Churchman won three events and placed second in two others on her way to accumulating 4,612 points in seven events. Her total is currently sixth-best in the nation. Churchman earned All-America honors for her performance in the pentathlon at the national indoor championships earlier this month.
Lewis College's Christine Kustra finished second in the event with a provisionally qualifying score of 4,503 points. Jennifer Kiss placed third with 4,292 points and Tierney Eaton took fourth with 4,046 points.
Injuries to two Lewis athletes Sunday left three performers in the men's decathlon. Jacob Dupin and Brad Koschel competed unattached to help pace Myers who turned in career-best performances in the long jump, high jump, 400-meter dash and pole vault.
Myers earned more than 700 points in the 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash and 110-meter hurdles. He finished with 5,674 points in completing his first collegiate decathlon.
