Churchman Provisionally Qualifies at Tulsa Duels
TULSA, Okla. - Emily Churchman started her outdoor season where she left off in the indoor season and became the first Bearcat to provisionally qualify in the outdoor events at the Tulsa Duels earlier today. Churchman jumped 5-7 in the high jump and 18-6 1/2 in a pair of top-three finishes to place herself on the early list of potential athletes at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in San Angelo, Texas.
Northwest Missouri State tallied 14 top-three performances against a number of Division I teams (Kansas State, Tulsa, Bradley, Missouri-Kansas City, Oral Roberts). Anna O'Brien finished third in both the 800-meter and 1,500-meter runs with 2:25.67 and 4:57.58, respectively.
Martin Curley and Sheldon Cook also recorded a pair of top-three finishes in their respective events. Cook finished second in both the 100-meter (10.85) and 200-meter (21.94) dashes while Curley placed second in the triple jump (46-1 1/2) and third in the long jump (23-0). Martell Love finished behind Curley in the triple with 45-8 1/2.
Zane Myers competed in four events and peaked with a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with 57.71. John Miles also finished third in the 100-meter dash behind Cook with 10.89.
The Bearcat women went 3-4-5 in the 100-meter hurdles and Johanna Avilez led the way with 15.42. Audrey Bailey finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with 1:03.17 while Brittany Poole placed third in the 2,000-meter steeplechase with 7:50.68 to round out the top-three performances for Northwest.
Up Next: The Bearcats will send athletes to the Missouri Relays March 27-28 before hosting the Herschel Neil Decathlon/Ashley Nally Heptathlon March 28-29 at Bearcat Stadium.
