HOUSTON - Tyler Shaw finished fourth in his heat but beat all the times in the second heat with 8.12 seconds to qualify for tomorrow's final in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. Shaw used a strong start in lane two to stay with the leaders and was edged at the finish line by runners in lanes six and seven.
Shaw was the top freshman in the preliminaries and is one of three freshmen among the final eight athletes. A finish tomorrow will guarantee Shaw All-America status, as the top eight athletes in each event earn the honor.
All three Bearcat athletes will be in action tomorrow, starting with Emily Churchman in the inaugural NCAA pentathlon at 9 a.m. Ben McKim will compete in the shot put at 2:05 p.m. followed by the Shaw at 5:05 p.m.
