Bearcats Make Second Straight Appearance at Central Missouri
MARYVILLE, Mo. - With a week remaining before the championship portion of the schedule, the Northwest Missouri State track and field teams head to the site of the conference championships a week early for the Central Missouri Classic Feb. 20. Field events from the UCM Multipurpose Building begin at 11 a.m. followed by running events at 3 p.m.
Northwest will see half of the MIAA teams Friday as Truman, Southwest Baptist and Pittsburg State are scheduled to compete along with Central Missouri. The track and field teams will be the first Bearcat teams to compete at Central Missouri this weekend, as the men's and women's basketball teams play a doubleheader in Warrensburg, Mo., Saturday.
Twenty-five Bearcats, 14 men and 11 women, set career bests and two set program records at the UCM Multipurpose Building two weeks ago at the Central Missouri Mule Relays Feb. 6-7. Hannah Henry ran 8.96 seconds and Tyler Shaw ran 8.09 to break their respective 60-meter hurdle records two weeks ago.
Shaw is fifth in Division II performance lists and will likely make the trip to the national championships in Houston next month. Ben McKim's standing in the shot put lists is also relatively safe as he is eighth with 55-5 3/4.
The other four Northwest qualifiers (John Miles, Emily Churchman, Henry and Anna O'Brien) will likely need to improve their marks Friday and next weekend to advance to the NCAA championships, as none of the athletes are above 18th in national performance lists.
