Churchman Named MIAA Athlete of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State junior pentathlete Emily Churchman was named the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week after improving her NCAA provisional qualifying mark and program record to 3,372 points at the Kip Janvrin Multi-Events Meet Feb. 1.
She's the first Northwest female athlete to earn indoor honors since Alisha Samuel won the track honors Feb. 16, 2006.
Churchman won the shot put with 33-3 and finished second in the high jump and 800-meter run. She finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles and long jump in winning the overall title among the 12 athletes.
Churchman was one of three Bearcats in the finals of the 55-meter hurdles the day before in the Scott Nisely Memorial Classic Jan. 31, running 8.83 to finish fifth.
Northwest continues the indoor season Feb. 6 at the Central Missouri Mule Relays. Competition from the UCM Multipurpose Building begins at 2 p.m.
