McKim Improves Qualifying Mark in Second Day of Holiday Inn Invite
LINCOLN, Neb. - Ben McKim placed fourth with a career-best 53-6 1/4 in the shot put in the second day of the Nebraska Holiday Inn Invitational Jan. 17. Ron Purnell also improved his personal best in the 200-meter dash while Hannah Henry lowered her season-best in the 60-meter hurdles.
McKim reached the mark on his final throw of the preliminaries to advance to the finals. He's improved his personal record by nearly two feet this season and moved into ninth in program performer records.
Henry finished seventh in the hurdles and defeated a pair of Division I athletes in a 9.14 performance. It's the third-best time of her career and her fastest since the 2007 MIAA championships.
Purnell was the top Division II finisher in the 200-meter dash and finished 12th overall with 22.68. He improved his personal best by more than half a second.
Up Next: Northwest heads back to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Open Jan. 23-24.
