Five Bearcats Advance to NCAA Outdoor Championships
MARYVILLE - Five student-athletes will head to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 22-24 at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif. Audrey Bailey advanced in the 400-meter hurdles for the women, while John Miles advanced in the 100-meter dash and will join Sheldon Cook, E.J. Falkner and Kendall Wright on the 4x100-meter relay team. It's the first trip to the national meet for everyone except Falkner, who advances for the first time since 2005.
Bailey qualified with the ninth-fastest time in the nation with a 1:00.84 performance at the MIAA Championships May 5. She earned All-MIAA honors this season and is second in all-time program performer lists. She will compete in the preliminaries at 7:20 p.m. PDT May 22.
Miles ran a school record 10.48 in the 100-meter dash at the Northwest Open April 5 to earn his way to the NCAA meet. An MIAA Athlete of the Week and three-time All-MIAA performer during the outdoor season, Miles will run in the preliminaries at 5:35 p.m. PDT May 22.
The 4x100-meter relay team qualified with a school record 40.80 at the Emporia State Twilight Qualifier last weekend, and sits with the 10th best time among accepted teams. The relay team members will be the first athletes from Northwest to compete, with preliminaries scheduled for 4:10 p.m. PDT May 22.
The 45th Men's and 26th Women's NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships are hosted by California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, but will be held at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. The top eight athletes in each event earn All-America honors.
