Bearcat Relay Team Leads Northwest Men at Drake Relays
DES MOINES, Iowa - Northwest placed second in the 4x100-meter relay, running 41.48 in the finals of the 99th Drake Relays that concluded today. The team of Kevin Okonta, John Miles, Sheldon Cook and E.J. Falkner ran under 41.50 seconds for the third straight time, providing the Bearcats a top three performance in any event at the Drake Relays for the third straight year.
The 1,600-meter sprint medley of Cook, Okonta, Tommy Warren and Jeff Kanger finished fifth among Division II schools and 16th overall with 3:31.57. Miles also ran 10.91 in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash, finishing as top Division II athlete in the event and 18th overall.
Up Next: Northwest multi-event athletes will compete in the MIAA Multi-Event Championships at Fort Hays State starting tomorrow. The men's decathlon begins at 2 p.m. followed by the women's heptathlon at 3 p.m. The full team will host the MIAA Championships May 3-4 at Herschel Neil Track.
