Kiss Wins Heptathlon; Wright Finishes Second in Decathlon
MARYVILLE - A first-place finish in the final two events allowed junior Jennifer Kiss to win the 2008 Ashley Nally Heptathlon. She scored 4,155 points, defeating Kayci Merrihew of Minnesota State University, Mankato, by 11 points.
Kiss scored more than 400 points over her previous personal record for her first career heptathlon victory, and provided a Northwest winner in the event for the second straight year.
Senior Kendall Wright finished second in the Herschel Neil Decathlon, scoring 5,900 points in his first career decathlon. He won the 110-meter hurdles to start the day, but first-time appearances in the discus, pole vault and javelin allowed Ryan Koch to win the overall title for a second time with 6,453 points.
Kiss won the javelin with a throw of 91-7 for 437 points before winning the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.30 for 690 points. Sophomore Lindsay Biermann finished behind Kiss in the event with 2:34.09.
