
PITTSBURG, Mo.—Northwest Missouri State sent 22 members of its men’s track and field team to compete at Pittsburg State’s PSU Open Saturday for the Bearcats’ first outdoor meet of the season.
No team scores were kept, but junior Sheldon Cook did turn in the top long jump mark of the meet. Cook bested 13 other student-athletes with a leap of 22-feet-7-inches in his sixth and final jump. It was the only event Cook participated in.
Freshman T.R. Pursell placed fourth in both the 1,500- and 5,000-meter runs, finishing in times of 4:03.93 and 15:44.16, respectively. Senior Jeff Kanger placed third in the 800-meter run (1:58.88) and fifth in the 1,500-meter run (4:05.49).
Senior John Bullock bested two other competitors in winning the 400-meter hurdles (55.78s). He also placed seventh in the 100-meter dash (11.29s).
Junior Brad Sorensen finished second of nine in the steeplechase with a time of 9:55.33. He also competed in the 5,000.
Gabe Peters, Austin Gray and Dan Scheuler each competed in both the shot and hammer. Peters led the Bearcats in both events, taking fourth in the hammer throw (47.63m) and sixth in the shot put (13.31m).
