
JOPLIN, Mo. – A total of 12 athletes qualified for the finals in track events after the first day of competition at the MIAA Championships in Joplin, Mo. Two more athletes provisionally qualified and another secured his ticket to the NCAA Championships after day one.
E.J. Falkner finished first in the preliminaries and the semifinals of the 60-meter dash, running 6.79 in the semifinals to obtain the automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA meet. He is one-hundredth of a second away from tying the school record set in 2004 by Gabriel Helms.
John Miles earned a provisional qualifying mark in the 60-meter dash, finishing second in the semifinals with 6.84. Rachel Lewis provisionally qualified in the 60-meter dash for the women, running 7.84 in a runner-up performance in the semifinals.
Bridget Kleine advanced to the finals in the 400-meter dash with a 58.83 performance, finishing second in the preliminaries. She also qualified in the 200-meter dash with 26.58.
The following athletes qualified for the finals in track events that begin at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow. Finals competition in field events start at 10 a.m. at the St. John's Track inside Leggett & Platt Athletic Center at Missouri Southern.
