Coach Lorek Inks Five Track Athletes

MARYVILLE -- The Northwest Missouri State women's track and field head coach Scott Lorek has signed five athletes for the 2009 team. Lorek's fourth recruiting class hails three from Missouri and two from Nebraska.

Brittany Poole (Omaha, Neb.)
High School: Millard West High School Parents: Doug and Linda Poole
Notes: State champion in the 1600 meter run (5:15), 3200 meter (11:21) and 4K (14:58) senior season ... Voted outstanding student by teachers and peers ... Helped her track team place second at state in 2005.

Heidi Johnson (Clarksdale, Mo.)
High School: Maysville High School Parents: Charles and Linda Johnson
Notes: Won cross country district meet at Richmond in 2007 ... Her 800 meter time was tops at the Cleveland, Mo. sectional, which qualified her for state ... Awarded all-state cross country ... Placed 13th in the state cross country meet ... A St. Joseph News-Press Athlete of the Week ... High Honor Roll award.

Kelsey Peters (Peculiar, Mo.)
High School: Raymore-Peculiar High School Parents: Donald and Lonnie Peters
Notes: Personal bests are 2:34 in 800 meter, 5:49 in 1600 meter and 19:24 in 5K ... Captain of the cross country team ... Received most-improved award ... Principles honor roll ... National Honor Society member ... A three-time individual state qualifier and two-time team state qualifier.

Natalie Mitchell (Omaha, Neb.)
High School: Millard West High School Parents: John and Manreen Mitchell
Notes: Personal bests are 59.7 in 400 meters and 27.0 in 200 meters ... Ran at the state track meet her freshman year.

Courtney Long (Kansas City, Mo.)
High School: Park Hill South High School Parents: Rob and Pam Long
Notes: A sectional qualifier in the pole vault ... Lettered three years in track ... Also was on the diving team ... Broke school pole vault record.
