MARYVILLE – The Northwest Missouri State women’s indoor track and field team is eighth in the latest USTFCCCA/D2Rankings.com Power Rankings released Feb. 6. It’s the first appearance for the Bearcat women in the power rankings this season.
The Northwest men dropped to 14th in the rankings, after sitting ninth in last week’s ranking.
The women tallied 204.92 points based on the season-best of the top two athletes in each event. It’s the highest ranking since March 4, 2002, when the women equalled their current ranking.
Missouri Southern leads MIAA women teams with a second-place showing behind Ashland University. The University of Central Missouri is 17th and Emporia State sits 24th.
Central Missouri is the top-ranked MIAA squad for the men with a 12th-place ranking. Emporia State is one spot behind Northwest in 15th and Missouri Southern is 17th.
The rankings formula gives points in a manner designed to award teams that cover as many events as possible, to maintain the team aspect of the sport.
