CHARLOTTE, N.C. - (Live results) Junior Brandi Honeywell stands in third with 2,931 points after the first day of events in the heptathlon at the 2007 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. Junior Courtland Ingram is in 12th after the first day of decathlon events.

"She's been very steady, and at a national championship it all about being consistent," said women's head coach Scott Lorek. "She hasn't had a great event but she hasn't had a bad event. She's handling things very well."

Honeywell opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, running 14.87 to win her heat. She finished in a tie for 13th in the high jump with a 5 1/4 mark and a personal record of 35 1/2 in the shot put garnered her a sixth-place finish in the event. Honeywell finished runner-up in the 200-meter dash, clocking 25.48 seconds, to finish day one of events with 2,931 points, 197 points from first-place athlete Desera Brown of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Ingram finished 10th in the 100-meter dash with 11.74 and 13th in the long jump with 19-7 before placing eighth in the shot put with a personal record mark of 39-6. A six-foot jump in the high jump tied him for ninth before he set another personal record in the 400-meter dash with 51.62 to place 12th. Ingram stands with 3,286 points with five of 10 events complete.

"(Courtland) started out kind of slow and then had three events in a row that were really good," said men's head coach Richard Alsup. "He's back a little bit but … we hope to make a run tomorrow."

Both heptathlon and decathlon events will conclude Friday, May 25, with the decathlon beginning at 9 a.m. CST and the heptathlon beginning at 10 a.m. CST.

Two additional Northwest athletes will be in competition tomorrow. Senior Bayo Adio will compete in the high jump at 5 p.m. CST and senior Eric Isley will run a preliminary race in the 800-meter run at 5:15 p.m. CST.
