Four Bearcats Improve on NCAA Qualifying Marks at Emporia State Twilight Qualifier
EMPORIA, Kan. -- Senior Bayo Adio guaranteed his spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with an automatic qualifying jump of 7-2 1/2 to win the high jump at the Emporia State Twilight Qualifier on May 12. Three other athletes bettered provisional marks in the final meet to qualify for the NCAA national meet at the Irwin Bell Complex at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. on May 24-26.
Adio sits second behind Bob Sundell's 7-5 mark in all-time performer lists. Adio also improved his provisional mark in the triple jump with a personal record 47-9.
Senior Diezeas Calbert recorded his best performance in the triple jump this season, jumping 49-11 3/4 to win the event. Calbert stands 10th in nationwide performance lists as of May 12.
Senior Eric Isley finished third in the 800-meter run, running a personal record 1:50.77 to improve his provisional time. He stands fifth nationally in results through May 12 in the best performance for Northwest since Philip Dew ran 1:50.69 in 1987.
Sophomore Audrey Bailey ran 1:02.32 in the 400-meter hurdles to set a personal record and improve on her NCAA provisional mark. Her time would move her into 17th in Division II based on performance lists through May 12.
The final field for the NCAA Outdoor Championships will be announced at www.ncaasports.com at 12 noon CST on Tuesday, May 15.
