Bearcat Track and Field Opens Season at Iowa State Holiday Classic

AMES, Iowa - ( men's results) ( women's results) Northwest Missouri State men's track and field team combined for seven top-three finishes in the first first meet of the 2006-07 indoor season. The women managed two finishes in the top-three in a meet featuring several unattached and NCAA Division I athletes.

Junior Courtland Ingram placed second in the pole vault and freshman Ben McKim equaled the placing in the shot put to lead individual athletes for the Bearcat men. Ingram vaulted 14-7.25 to match the champion, but finished second because of taking extra vaults to reach the height. McKim used his last of six attempts to record a 49-10 mark in the shot put to finish second.

The men's first entry in the 4x400-meter relay team finished second with 3:24.56. The second Northwest entry followed seven-tenths of a second later for a third-place performance.

Senior Matt Pohren lowered his personal record by over 10 seconds in the 3,000-meter run, finishing third in 8:44.72. Junior Jeff Kanger also broke his personal record in the 800-meter run in route to a third-place finish with 1:56.72.

Junior Cassie Sherlock finished between runners from Drake (Iowa) University, placing second in the 800-meter run in the highest performance by the Bearcat women.

The 4x300-meter relay team placed third of seven teams with 2:52.62 for the only other top-three finish for the women.

The Bearcat women advanced three out of the preliminaries and into the finals for the 60-meter hurdles. Sophomore Hannah Henry clocked 9.40 seconds in a fourth-place finish. Freshman Johanna Avilez and sophomore Emily Churchman finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
