Four Bearcats Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team
METLAIRE, La. - Northwest Missouri State junior jumper Bayo Adio (Oakland, Calif.), sophomore hurdler/jumper Courtland Ingram (Hannibal, Mo.), junior middle distance runner Eric Isley (Pleasantville, Iowa), and senior thrower Travis MacKenzie (Cumberland, British Columbia) were named to the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) Division II All-Academic Track and Field Team, announced July 18. Athletes must have maintained a 3.25 GPA and meet NCAA national qualifying marks to receive the honor.
A Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Champion in the high jump for the indoor and outdoor seasons, Adio finished 10th in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on May 25-27. Setting a personal record 6' 11 3/4" in the outdoor high jump at the MIAA Championships, he never finished lower than third in any meet during the outdoor season.
Named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and Academic All-MIAA squads, Ingram finished second in the decathlon at the MIAA Multi-Events Championship, tallying a personal record 6,508 points. He finished eighth in the javelin throw at the MIAA Outdoor Championships, and placed seventh in the pole vault at the MIAA indoor meet.
Earning an All-America title in the outdoor 800-meter run with a sixth-place performance, Isley won the event at both MIAA championship meets, setting an indoor conference championship meet record with 1:52.48. Named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Roll and Academic All-MIAA teams, he finished in the top-five of the 800-meter run four times in the outdoor season, and won the event three times when competing indoors.
Breaking the school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 185' 0", MacKenzie was named an All-American after placing sixth in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He also placed tenth in the weight throw at the 2006 NCAA indoor meet and second at the MIAA Indoor Championships. MacKenzie was named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Roll.
The Bearcats finished the 2006 campaign ranked 12th in national outdoor power rankings and a second-place finish at the MIAA Indoor Championships, their best team performance since 2002.
