Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Sign Six Additional Athletes
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University head women's track and field/cross country coach Scott Lorek announced the signing of six additional athletes to NCAA National Letters of Intent. The six athletes join Blair Sample, who signed on Dec., 14, 2005.
* Anne Benedict - Central High School (cross country/track and field)
Benedict, a freshman from St. Joseph, Mo., was selected as MVP in cross country and competed in the state meet her junior year, finishing 42nd. Benedict also recorded a time of 19:45 in the 5-kilometer run and 2:28 in the 800-meter run.
* Lindsey Biermann - North Platte High School (track and field)
Biermann, a freshman from Weston, Mo., placed fourth in the triple jump her senior year at the state track meet with 34' 8 1/2". She also finished fourth in the long jump her junior year, recording a mark of 16' 4 1/2". Biermann was also a member of the North Platte basketball and softball teams, which finished third and fourth in state championships, respectively.
* Jane Ann Bowness - Steelville High School (cross country/track and field)
Bowness, a freshman from Steelville, Mo., earned all-conference and all-district honors in track for three years, and was named to the all-state cross country team twice. Bowness holds Steelville High School records in the 4x400-meter relay and 3,200-meter run, and was the 2005 district champion in the 3,200-meter run.
*Jennifer Dittburner - Desert Mountain High School (cross country/track and field)
Dittburner, a freshman from Scottsdale, Ariz., was the champion of the Scottsdale City Meet, recording a personal record 19:49 in the 5-kilometer run. Dittburner also received the Desert Mountain Senior Female Athlete of the Year award.
* Kimberly Eversgerd - Wathena High School (cross country/track and field)
Eversgerd, a freshman from Wathena Kan., finished third in the 1,600-meter run at state competition in 2005. She placed 12th in the state cross country meet, and holds high school records in cross country, 1,600-meter run, and 800-meter run.
* Kelly Raffety - Lawson High School (track and field)
Raffety, a freshman from Lawson, Mo., was the Class 2 state champion in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run in 2006, after winning the 400-meter dash in every meet her senior year. Raffety has collected 13 state medals throughout four years of high school competition, and was named Kansas City Star "Scholar Athlete" in 2006.
