Five Bearcats Advance to 2006 NCAA Outdoor Championships

EMPORIA, Kan. - Five athletes from the Northwest Missouri State men's track and field team qualified for the 2006 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held May 25-27 in Emporia, Kan. The event is hosted by Emporia State University.

Those athletes preparing to compete include: junior Eric Isley (Pleasantville, Iowa) in the 800-meter run, junior Bayo Adio (Oakland, Calif.) in the high jump, senior Diezeas Calbert (Omaha, Neb.) and freshman Daniel Urum-Ike (Lee's Summit, Mo.) in the triple jump, and senior Travis MacKenzie (Cumberland, British Columbia).

Isley holds the eighth fastest time in the nation for the 800-meter run, after clocking a personal-record 1:51.42 in a first-place finish at the MIAA Championships on May 6-7. Isley has finished in the top-five four times this season, and is scheduled to compete in the preliminaries on Fri., May 26 at 6:15 p.m. Finals are scheduled on Sat., May 27 at 6:59 p.m.

Adio currently stands ninth in NCAA performance lists with a personal record 6' 11 3/4" jump in a MIAA conference winning performance on May 6-7. Adio won the event twice during the year, and never placed below third in seven meets. Finals for the high jump will take place at 6:00 p.m., on Fri. May 26.

Calbert, the MIAA champion in the triple jump, qualified for the national meet with a school-record 50' 4 3/4 " mark at the Kansas Relays on April 20-22. Calbert won the event three times this season, and finished in the top-five in every meet. Calbert will be joined by Urum-Ike, who qualified with the NCAA's 17th best jump of 48' 9" in a runner-up performance at the MIAA Championships. Both men will compete in the finals on Sat., May 27, at 5:30 p.m.

MacKenzie used a school record 184' 6" mark in the hammer throw to qualify with the tenth best throw in the nation. MacKenzie never finished below third in any meet this season, and will be the first Bearcat in competition, with finals in the hammer throw scheduled for Thurs., May 25 at 3:00 p.m.
