
EMPORIA, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State track and field teams ended their 2006 regular outdoor season at the Emporia State Twilight Qualifier yesterday in Emporia, Kan., placing three Bearcats in the top-10 of events in an attempt to qualify additional athletes for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on May 25-27.
Senior Alisha Samuel crossed the finish line sixth in the finals of the 100-meter dash with 12.35, unable to improve on her provisional qualifying mark of 12.09 set at the MIAA Championships on May 6-7. Junior Kailea Cook finished ninth in the preliminaries with 12.51.
The women’s 4x100-meter relay team placed fifth in 48.03 seconds. The 400-meter relay team provisionally qualified at the MIAA meet with 46.73 in a third-place finish.
Freshmen Halley Carlson tied for fifth yesterday with a 5’ 2 1/4” mark in the high jump, and freshman Anna O'Brien set a personal-record of 2:19.72 in the 800-meter run, placing 13th.
On the men’s side, junior Clif McIntosh placed 11th in the pole vault with a personal record of 15’ 3 1/2”, while freshman Brad Cox placed 14th. Sophomore Jeff Kanger placed 15th in the 800-meter run, clocking 1:55.25.
The Emporia Twilight Qualifier represented the last opportunity for Northwest athletes to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on May 25-27 in Emporia, Kan. To participate, athletes must meet automatic qualifying marks or earn an invitation based on provisional qualifying marks.
