Alsup Honored as MIAA Coach of the Year
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Northwest Missouri State men's track and field coach Rich Alsup was honored as the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Indoor Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year, named by the conference offices today. Alsup shares the award with Central Missouri State coaches Kirk Pederson and Kip Janvrin. It is Alsup's fifth MIAA coaching award and his first indoor award since 2001.
Alsup led the Bearcats to a second-place finish in the MIAA Indoor Championships, their best finish since an equal showing in 2002. Northwest won five events at the 2006 MIAA meet, a school record for wins at the conference meet. Alsup also qualified four athletes for the NCAA Division II National Championships in Boston, Mass., coaching three athletes to top-ten finishes in their events, including two All-America performances from junior E.J. Falkner in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes.
The Bearcats will be hosting the Northwest Invitational on April 1, with events beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Herschel Neil Track and Bearcat Stadium.
