Bearcats Complete Day One at Northwest Centennial Multi-EventsMARYVILLE, Mo. - Freshman Emily Churchman led Northwest athletes in the heptathlon after the first day of competition in the Northwest Centennial Multi-Events. Brandi Honeywell, competing unattached, leads female athletes with 2,637 points, while Ryan Koch of St. Cloud State University (Minn.) sits on top of decathlon standings with 3,178 points.
Churchman tied for third in the high jump with 4' 11 1/2". Freshman Johanna Avilez finished first in the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, totaling 2,469 points for a fourth-place finish after four events.
Lindsey Krueger of St. Cloud State and Kaycie Merrihew of Minnesota State-Mankato tied for first in the high jump, and Kaydie King of Lewis University won the shot put with 35' 2 3/4".
In the decathlon, Koch won the long jump and tied for first in the high jump, leading four athletes after five events. A.J. Roth, competing unattached, took first in the 100-meter dash, shot put, and 400-meter dash, and Jef Zoellick of Lewis University tied for first in the high jump, recording 6' 1/2".
Competition will continue tomorrow, with decathlon events beginning at 9:00 A.M., and heptathlon events beginning at 10:00 A.M.
