Dia McKee Breaks Northwest Steeplechase Record at Alabama Relays
Junior Kailea Cook placed first for Northwest in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, placing 31st and 45th, respectively. Freshman Catrina Bennett finished 55th in the 400-meter dash, running 1:05.11. Freshman hurdler Hannah Henry placed 20th in the 400-meter hurdles and freshman Johanna Avilez crossed the finish line with the 27th best time in the 100-meter hurdles, the top Northwest hurdler in the event.
McKee finished 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running 12:14.92, topping her previous school record of 12:29.84, set at the 2005 Northwest Invitational. Freshman Anna O'Brien placed first for the Bearcats in the 800-meter, finishing 25th; and in the 1,500-meter run, placing 21st. Sophomore Karah Spader finished 11th in the 5,000-meter run, setting a personal record with 18:40.67.
Sophomore Halley Carlson tied for fifth in the high jump with a 5' 3" jump, while freshman Tierney Eaton tied for eighth with 5' 1".
The women will join the men in hosting the Northwest Centennial Multi-Events on March 26-27 and the Northwest Invitational on April 1.
