Falkner Advances to Finals at NCAA Championships
BOSTON, Mass. - Junior E.J. Falkner advanced to the finals in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston, Mass. Falkner was the only Bearcat to advance out of preliminaries from today's competition.
In the 200-meter dash, Falkner ran a school record-breaking 21.44 seconds, a second-place qualifying finish behind Central Missouri's Imani Butler. Falkner also qualified fifth in the 400-meter preliminaries with 48.36, another school record.
Junior Eric Isley finished 13th in the 800-meter preliminaries with 1:56.17. Isley ends the indoor season as the MIAA 800-meter champion with the conference championship record. In the weight throw, senior Travis MacKenzie threw for 57' 9 1/2", a 10th place finish. MacKenzie ends his indoor career after finishing second in the weight throw at the MIAA meet on Feb. 24-25.
On the women's side, senior Alisha Samuel placed 14th in the 60-meter preliminaries with a 7.75 second run. Samuel ends her indoor collegiate career with the school and MIAA championship records in the 60-meter dash, and was named an All-American in the 60-meter dash the last two seasons.
Northwest will continue competition on Saturday, as Falkner participates in the 400-meter dash at 3:20 p.m., and 200-meter dash at 4:28 p.m. Junior Bayo Adio, the MIAA high jump champion, will compete at 1:15 p.m. tomorrow, ranked 13th in national performance lists for the high jump. The top-eight finalists in each event are named to the All-America team.
