Two Bearcats Provisionally Qualify for NCAA Meet at Mule Relays
WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Three Northwest Missouri State athletes placed in the top-three of their events at the CMSU Mule Relays in Warrensburg, Mo., today. Two athletes also provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet, to be held March 9-11 in Boston, Mass.
Junior E.J. Falkner placed sixth in the 60-meter dash, provisionally qualifying with a 6.87 second time. Freshman Keelen Green earned a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, his highest placing in any event this season. Freshman Corey Mason also placed 18th in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, setting a personal record 9.03 seconds.
Junior Eric Isley led distance runners by finishing second in the 600-yard run, his fourth top-three finish of the season in individual events. Junior Matt Pohren finished sixth in the 5,000-meter run, while sophomore Jeff Kanger placed 13th in the mile run, running 4:30.26.
Junior Bayo Adio continued his success in the high jump, placing third in the event for the second consecutive meet, and provisionally qualifying for NCAA national meet with a 6' 8 3/4" jump. Senior Travis Brownley finished first for the Bearcats in two throwing events, placing ninth in the shot put and seventh in the weight throw. Brownley also set a personal record in the weight throw, throwing for 54' 5 1/4".
Both Northwest Missouri State track and field teams will be in action at the Prairie Wolf Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., on Feb. 17. It will be their last regular season meet before the MIAA Championships on Feb. 24-25, at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo.
