Northwest Performs Strong at the Iowa State Holiday Classic
AMES, Iowa - Both Northwest Missouri State track and field teams participated in their first meet of the indoor season at the Iowa State Holiday Classic on Dec. 9. The Bearcats had three runners place in the top two of their individual events, with several others in the top five.
The women were lead by the second place finishes of Alisha Samuel in the 60m dash and Stacey Loemker in the weight throw. Samuel finished the 60m in 7.82 seconds while Loemker threw for 14.19m. Three other Bearcats placed in the top five in their respective events. Freshman runner Johanna Avilez finished the 60m hurdles in 9.63 seconds for fifth, while Halley Carlson and Tierney Eaton both tied for fifth in the high jump with 1.58m. The women's 4x300m team also placed fifth overall with a time of 2:51.5.
The men's team was lead by junior Eric Isley and his first place finish in the 800m run. Isley beat out 18 other runners, and defeated second place by over two seconds. Courtland Ingram finished second in pole vault with a career-high 4.3m vault. Sophomore Jeff Kanger finished fifth in the mile run, rounding out the top-five finishers from Northwest Missouri State.
Both track and field teams will be off until the weekend of January 13-14, when both teams will travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the Holiday Inn Invitational.
