Prange Breaks NCAA Shot Put Record, Falkner Takes Second in the 400-meter

ABILENE, Tex. -- (complete results) Northwest Missouri State senior Clint Prange picked up his second national title of the 2005 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships with an all-time NCAA Division II best in the shot put. After breaking the MIAA record and taking top national honors in the discus on Thursday, his third career discus title in four years, Prange heaved the shot put 66'1" on Friday to break the 1986 Division II standard of Ahmed Shata (63'10 1/4") from Abilene Christian.

Prange's record-shattering toss came on his sixth and final throw, edging out the fifth throw of 65'11" by California State Bakersfield's Chris Figures. Figures had beaten out Prange in several head-to-head competitions prior to the Championships.

Sophomore Dallas Flynn ended his 2005 season with a 15th-place performance in the shot put with a throw of 51'11 1/4".

Sophomore sprinter E.J. Falkner took second in the 400-meter finals today with a clocking of 45.98. His effort narrowly missed the top finish of Marvin Essor (45.49) from Abilene Christian. Falkner has won three All-America honors in 2005 as he was second in the indoor 60-meters and third in the 200-meters.

Falkner is competing in the finals of the 200-meter later tonight after he took third in the prelims on Friday.

Prior to Falkner's 200-meter performance, the Northwest men were sixth as a team with 26 points.
