Prange Wins Third National Discus Title, Falkner Advances to 400-meter FinalsABILENE, Tex. -- (complete results) The Northwest Missouri State outdoor track and field team was highlighted by the effort of senior Clint Prange today at the NCAA Division II National Championships, hosted by Abilene Christian University. Prange was crowned national discus champion with a toss of 191'11," which was more than 13 feet better than the second-place heave of Chris Figures (178'10") of California State-Bakersfield. The discus title is Prange's third of his career as he won it in 2002 & 2003.
In the opening day, sophomore E.J. Falkner placed third in the 400-meter prelims with a time of 46.75. He was right behind the 46.64 effort of Shannon Washington (Texas A&M-Kingsville) and 46.44 clocking of Marvin Essor (Abilene Christian). Falkner moves on to the finals to take place on Saturday.
In the 100-meter women's prelims, junior Alisha Samuel took 13th overall with a time of 12.05. She ends her season as the MIAA outdoor 100-meter champion.
Day two of national competition will continue tomorrow with Prange and sophomore Dallas Flynn in the shot put and Falkner in the 200-meter prelims.
