Day 1 of Northwest Invite Complete; Heptathlon and Decathlon Started
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- (Day 1 Results) The Northwest Missouri State outdoor track and field team hosted Day 1 of the two-day Northwest Invitational at Herschel Neil Track and has three competitors listed in the heptathlon and decathlon events. On the women's side, sophomore Brandi Honeywell placed first in all four events completed today in the heptathlon - there are three more events (long jump, javelin, 800M) tomorrow. For the men, freshman Aaron Black and freshman Courtland Ingram both had high results in the decathlon after five events - there are five more events (discus, javelin, 110 Hurdles, pole vault, 1,500M) tomorrow.
Honeywell, who placed third in the javelin and eighth in the long jump at the season-opening Louisiana Classic on Mar. 19, took home top honors in the 200M, 100M Hurdles, High Jump and Shot Put. Her largest victory came in the shot put with her heave of 30.91 feet. The next closest mark was 26.05 feet by Monica Silvey from William Jewel.
Black and Ingram each had two first-place finishes to their name. Black won the high jump with a leap of 6.04 feet and the Shot Put with a toss of 35.53 feet. In his first collegiate outdoor performance, Ingram won the 100M in 11.34 and the Long Jump with a distance of 20.44 feet.
The Invitational will wrap up with all events on Saturday beginning with the Heptathlon Long Jump at 9 a.m.
