Indoor Track & Field Athletes Head to BostonMARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State will send six individuals to the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field National Championships Friday and Saturday, Mar. 11-12 in Boston, Ma. The event is hosted by the Eastern College Athletic Conference at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.
On the women's side, senior Mary Wirt (Liberty, Mo.) and junior Alisha Samuel (San Juan, Trinidad) will compete with Wirt listed in the weight throw and Samuel in the 60M dash. Heading into the event, Wirt is 14th with a toss of 55'5" done at the MIAA Championships (Feb. 25) while Samuel stands 11th with a mark of 7.65 accomplished at the Prairie Wolf Invite (Feb. 11).
"Our goal is to have both Mary and Alisha in the finals and for them to be All-American," said head women's coach Scott Lorek. "It is special for Mary because it is her last collegiate event (she has no outdoor eligibility). She is three inches away from the school's weight throw record and I know she is shooting for that."
Wirt will perform at 12:15 p.m. CST on Friday. Samuel will be in the 60M preliminaries at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with the finals scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Four male Bearcats are set to compete with junior Diezeas Calbert (Omaha, Neb.) in the triple jump, sophomore E.J. Falkner is eighth on the 60M list with 6.79 and second in the 200M (21.26), both of those efforts were done at the MIAA Championships (Feb. 25). Flynn is 13th (54'4 1/2") in the shot put while Prange is third (62'6 1/2"). Flynn's toss came at the MIAA event while Prange's school record heave was at the CMSU Classic (Feb. 19)
