Iowa State Open Allows Northwest to Place in 13 Events in the First Day
AMES, Iowa -- Northwest Missouri State's indoor track and field placed in seven of 16 events at the Annual Iowa State Open, in day one on Friday. The 'Cats will also be competing in the events that were held through out the day on Saturday.
Taking a glance at Northwest's field events, senior Mary Wirt placed third out of the 33 in the Women's Weight Throw with a distance of 52'06". On the men's side Travis McKenzie placed 13th out of 34 competitors in the Men's Weight Throw with a throw of 42'02".75. Travis Brownley placed 18th in the Men's Weight Throw with a mark of 43'05".25.
Junior Deizeas Calbert was 14th out of 35 athletes in the Long jump with a measurement of 21 feet 6 inches.
In the Men's 5000 Meter Run, Matt Pohren finished 11th of 44 with a time of 15:27.62 while four other Northwest teammates placed in the same event: Brandon Dart (16:23.46), David Preston (16:24.62), Micah Schmidt (16:33.05), Devin McCall (16:36.53).
In the Women's 5000 Meter Run, senior Ashley Grosse placed 18th out of 28 competitors with e a time of 19:26.27.
The next action that the 'Cats will see is Feb. 11 in Lincoln, Neb. for the Prairie Wolf Invitational.
