Freshman Aaron Black Competes in First Collegiate Pentathlon Placing 17th

CRETE, Neb. -- Northwest Missouri State indoor track and field freshman Aaron Black took 17th out of 29 competitors at the Kip Janvrin Pentathlon today (Sunday) hosted by Doane College. The Kip Janvrin Pentathlon consisted of collegiate athletes as well as other competitors.

Coach Richard Alsup commented, "this is Black's first competition on the collegiate level and it turned out quite well."

Black went 6'1 1/2" in the High Jump and recorded 38' 9" feet in the Shot Put. In Long Jump event he fouled his first two jumps. Black's final jump was 17' 3" feet which is two feet under his normal length. Alsup said, "Black needed a jump so he didn't scratch the whole event."

In the 55m hurdles, Black recorded 9.87 seconds and finished the 1000m in a time of 3:03.6.

Northwest Missouri State's next indoor track event is Jan. 28 & 29 in Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Open.
