Three medals at 2004 Iowa State High School Track and Field Championships

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State University has announced the signing of Katie Stilwell (West Des Moines, Iowa) to a national letter-of-intent to play volleyball and take part in track and field.

Stilwell was a second-team all-state selection in volleyball for Valley High School last season. She earned first-team all-district and First-Team All-Central Iowa Metropolitan League honors as well in 2003. As a junior, Stilwell was a second-team all-conference player. She was an honorable mention all-conference selection as a sophomore.

In club volleyball, Stilwell played on teams that have advanced to nationals three of the last four years.

In track and field, Stilwell brought home three medals from the Iowa State Track and Field Championships this past season. She was on a 4x400-meter relay team which took third place. She was on a shuttle hurdle relay squad which took fourth place and a distance medley team which was sixth. She also qualified for state in the discus, finishing 14th.

Stilwell was on district championship shuttle hurdle relay and distance medley teams as a senior. She also helped her 4x200-meter relay team to a conference championship.

As a junior, Stilwell qualified for the state meet in the discus and the 4x400-meter relay.

Stilwell will be a freshman at Northwest this fall.
