Carlson Signs With Bearcat Track and Field
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State University head women's track and field coach Vicki Wooton has announced the signing of Halley Carlson (Truro, Iowa) to a national letter-of-intent.
Carlson holds the Interstate 35 High School record for the high jump, with a leap of 5-feet 7-inches. She is also a member of the school-record-holding shuttle hurdle relay team. Calrson has been a three-time Drake Relays and three-time state championship qualifier in the high jump.
In addition to her high school competition, Carlson also takes part in USA Track and Field competition. Her jump of 5-8 1/4 was good enough to win her state and regional championships last summer. By virtue of those championships, she qualified to take part in the national meet in Miami, Fla. in 2003.
Carlson has excelled in the classroom as well. She is a member of the National Honor Society and served as senior class vice-president.
"Halley will be a great asset to our program," Wooton said. "She will make an immediate impact in the high jump. She'll be learining to pole vault as well."
Carlson will be a freshman at Northwest this fall.
