Top Finishers Drake Relays Men UMKC Invitational |
DES MOINES, IOWA - The Bearcat men came out strong on the second day of the Drake Relays Friday with a championship relay and final qualifier relay. The sprint medley relay took first place in a time of 3:23.20, beating out 19 other teams in the finals-only race. Team members included Gabriel Helms (Jr., St. Louis, Mo.), Tyler Martin (Fr., Berndena, Kan.), E.J. Falkner (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) and Eric Isley (So., Pleasantville, Iowa). Earlier in the morning, the 4x100-meter relay team qualified for the final in a time of 41.43 seconds, which placed third in one of five heats. Team members included Falkner, Jamaica Rector (So., Celeste, Texas), Martin and Helms. Helms also competed in the 100-meter dash preliminary but did not qualify for the finals. He placed fifth in his heat in a time of 10.73 seconds. For the women, Alisha Samuel (So., San Juan, Trinidad) also ran in the 100-meter dash preliminary but did not make the finals. She took seventh in her heat (12.09). Saturday's Drake Relays action includes Daniel McKim (Jr., Maryville, Mo.) in the hammer throw at 11 a.m. and the men's 4x100-meter relay final at 3:43 p.m. Other member of the track and field squads competed in day one of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Invitational Friday. Mary Wirt (Sr., Liberty, Mo.) won the women's hammer throw with a toss of 163 feet, 1 inch. Abby Disselhoff (So., Kansas City, Mo.) took fourth (132-10) while Nicole Fillion (Fr., Savannah, Mo.) placed sixth (129-7). The UMKC Invitational resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday. |
