Sprinters Successful in Day Two of Nebraska Invite
| Top Finishers Nebraska Invitational | LINCOLN, Neb. - The Northwest Missouri State University track and field teams completed the Nebraska/Holiday Inn Invitational Saturday with the sprint portion of the indoor meet. Alisha Samuel (So., San Juan, Trinidad) was the big finisher for the women with a second place performance in the 60-meter dash. Her time of 7.67 seconds lowered her previous provisional qualifying mark for nationals by 0.08 seconds. Kailea Cook (Fr., Parkville, Mo.) ran a 7.93 in the semifinals of the 60-meter dash but did not qualify for the finals. In other women's action, Steph Suntken (Jr., Indianola, Iowa) took 14th in the 400-meter dash (1:00.07), while Dia McKee (So., O'Fallon, Mo.) took 14th in the 600-yard run (1:34.42). Gabriel Helms (Jr., St. Louis, Mo.) took fifth place in the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.86 seconds, which also provisionally qualified him for the national meet. He adds this performance to a provisional qualifying time in the 55-meter dash at last week's Graceland Invitational in Lamoni, Iowa. In the 200-meter dash, E.J. Faulkner (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) turned in an eighth-place time of 22.14 seconds. In the day's few field events, Daniel McKim (Jr., Maryville, Mo.) followed yesterday's fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a second-place finish in the men's shot put. He threw 53 feet, 8.25 inches. Diezeas Calbert took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 44-9, and Pat Jordan (Jr., Maryville, Mo.) took 10th in the high jump (6-7). The Bearcats will head back to Lincoln next weekend to compete in the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational Jan. 31. |
