Bearcats drop final two games at Classic
BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Northwest Missouri State softball team fell to Quincy University in game one, 9-7 and then to Northwestern Oklahoma State 12-1 on the final day of the Arkansas-Monticello 8-State Classic.
It was a back and forth contest from the get go as Quincy put up two runs in the top of the first inning and Northwest answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Quincy took a 7-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning when Kristen Uthe knocked in Paige Orwig on a sacrifice fly. Later, in the same inning, Chantel Adams singled to left with bases loaded to plate two runs and tie the game up at 7-7.
QU added two in the seventh to go up 9-7. The Bearcats fell short in the comeback effort as Paige Blythe was tagged with the loss.
Northwest took on Northwestern Oklahoma State in the final game of the Classic.
NWOSU jumped out in front early and the Bearcats were unable to keep up.
Steph Mark was able to keep her team from being shutout in the bottom of the fifth inning when she singled in Torri Blythe from second.
Abbie Vitosh was tabbed with the loss in the 12-1 defeat.
Adams finished the weekend hitting .526 with three home runs while knocking in, a team high, eight RBI’s. Blythe hit .429 with two doubles and three stolen bases.
Head Coach Ryan Anderson’s team will head to the NSIC/MIAA Crossover tournament in St. Cloud, Minn. next week. Northwest will take on Wayne St. Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7 pm. Saturday, they will meet up with Concordia-St. Paul, Augustana and then St. Cloud St. with game one starting at 8 am.
