Softball Announces Signing of Three PlayersMARYVILLE, Mo. – Northwest Missouri State University head softball coach Ryan Anderson has announced the signing of three transfer student-athletes for the 2013-14 academic year.
Pitcher Sarah Baldwin will continue her collegiate career at Northwest after spending her freshman season at Evansville University. She will be a sophomore for the 2014 season. Baldwin appeared in 25 games for the Purple Aces, making 11 starts. She recorded 34 strikeouts in 73 innings. A native of Chillicothe, Mo., Baldwin was a four-time All-State selection, earning first-team accolades her final three seasons. In 2009 and 2010, she was the St. Joseph News Press Gazette Softball Player of the Year.
“Sarah will definitely help our pitching staff after losing Jenna (Creger) and Morgan (Brunmeier) to graduation,” said Anderson. “She brings experience after getting some quality innings her freshman year and we are looking forward to having her on the field. I remember watching her in high school, and she was always someone that wanted to compete.”
Ogden, Utah, native Stephanie Mark was a first-team All-Region VI and a first-team All-Jayhawk West selection for Seward County CC last season as a first baseman. Mark led Seward County in batting average (.432), doubles (19), home runs (17), and RBI (70). In 215 at bats this season for Seward, Mark struck out just 5 times, and put together a stretch of 114 consecutive at bats without a strikeout to end the 2013 regular season. She leaves Seward County as the all-time leader in hits (174), doubles (45), and RBI (122) and finished second all-time in career batting average (.447) and home runs (27). Mark went into the Spring 2013 semester with a 3.83 GPA and is an Engineering major. She will be a junior at Northwest for the 2014 season.
“We were looking for another big bat to add to the team,” Anderson said. “She is a consistent hitter that we hope can make some great contributions.”
Heaven Silveira will make the trip from Santa Clara, Calif., to suit up for the Bearcats in 2014, after spending her first two seasons at Moorpark College in Moorpark, Calif. Silveira split time behind the plate and at third base for the Raiders in her two seasons. Last season, she hit .349 with seven home runs and 47 RBI. She was a first-team All-Western-State Conference performer and was a two-time WSC Player of the Week recipient.
“Heaven is another hitter that can play a few positions for us,” said Anderson. “With all of the players that we graduated last season, we needed to pick up another player that could help us that way. We like that she is also bringing experience in with her.”
Northwest finished 27-19 last season making their fourth consecutive trip to the MIAA conference tournament.
